Rotational Molding Services Provided by Gregstrom Corporation
Rotational Molding (Roto Molding, Rotomolding) is a plastics processing technique that is ideally suited to produce relatively large, hollow, seamless parts which are partially or totally enclosed. Since 1946 Gregstrom Corporation has been providing molding and forming for the widest range of industries. In addition to world class molding and forming services, we offer complete assembly, testing, packaging, inventory management, and direct shipment both domestically and internationally.
What is Rotational Molding?
Rotational Molding is a low-pressure process where the strength required from the molds is minimal. This results in its ability to produce large, complex parts on short notice using low cost molds. The low processing pressure involved in rotational molding has the added advantage of producing parts which are virtually stress free.
Rotational Molding is a three step process. The first step is to load a pre-measured amount of liquid or powder resin into the mold. Next, the mold is moved into an oven, and rotated on two axes at low speed. As heat penetrates the mold, the resin adheres to the mold’s inner surface until it is completely fused. The last step is cooling. While still rotating, the mold is now cooled by air or water spray or a combination of both, lowering the temperature gradually. The mold is opened, the finished part is removed, and the mold is readied to repeat the cycle.
Gregstrom’s Rotational Molding services are economical for short production runs, prototypes as well as high volume production. Our design flexibility ranges form small, intricate designs to large, complex parts.
