The challenges of the Medical Laser Assembly project proved a perfect match for Gregstrom’s pressure forming process, high level of workmanship and attention to detail.
The assembly consists of 4 separate parts along with internal sheet metal components. Female cast aluminum tooling for 3 of the 4 parts are acid etched with a Mold-Tech finish. The textured surface along with custom color sheet eliminates the need for paint. Not only does this significantly reduce part cost, it also provides for a part that will look better for a longer period as there is no paint to get chipped off in the field.
Because of the undercuts and compound radii on the main housing, all sides of the tool are fitted with cylinder activated sections to allow the part to be stripped without scratching the part surface.
The center bezel is formed in a polished female mold and features flame retardant silver metallic sheet. Surface finish on this part is critical and requires extreme care in both the forming process and in handling during secondary operations.
The secondary operations are equally complex with intricate trimming following compound radii and are performed using a state of the art 6 axis robotic router. Trimming tolerances are held to /- .010”.
To ensure an uninterrupted supply, Gregstrom stocks a minimum level of finished parts at all times which allows for immediate releases in varying quantities and frequencies.
Gregstrom would welcome the opportunity to work with you on your next project and make it as successful as the Medical Laser Assembly.
